For the Industrial Performance Department, we are now looking for an Industrial Safety & Sustainability Director, to be based either in Visé, Belgium or St-Helens, UK and reporting to the Group Industrial Performance Director.

As Industrial Safety & Sustainability Director, you would be providing functional Health, Safety, Environment and Energy (HSEE) leadership and deploying the sustainability targets for our manufacturing sites and support to the Industrial Performance organization.
You would be developing, improving, promoting, coordinating, facilitating, standardizing, and implementing the Sustainability strategy and the HSEE requirements in particular in the area of Performance Improvement for our manufacturing sites.
You would facilitate the sharing of best practices, challenge the Manufacturing teams to achieve their sustainability targets based on an agreed roadmap plan, and provide a direct (and indirect) contribution to the sustainability of the business.
What you’ll be doing:
Working closely with Industrial Performance Director and the technical & manufacturing teams, the mission and responsibilities will be:
Deploy sustainability roadmap and monitor progress, challenge and improve
Technical Leadership of HSEE disciplines
Opinion Shaping
Stakeholder consultation and engagement both internal and external
Monthly and annual reporting of performance
Functional Management and Mentorship of the Plant HSEE Teams
Support ISO compliance at Plant and Technical Team Level
Identification and implementation of HSEE performance measurement and improvement tools
Participate and guide the plant during the group insurance audit
Coach and train each HSEE manager at plant level
Participate on fire and safety investigation, RCA and standardise/deploy the action plans
Ensure continuous improvement on energy efficiency with standard deployment
Waste: participate in working groups and the circular economy team to propose solution to reduce our waste to landfill
Provide machine and equipment expertise in term of people safety for new capacity, greenfield projects and acquisitions
Expected business travels will be up to 60% of the time to visit our manufacturing plants based in EMEA & APAC in order to execute responsibilities in the most pragmatic way.

What we’d love for you to have:
Master degree or Postgraduate Qualification in a sustainability related discipline such as the Professional Diploma in Safety, Health and Environmental Management or equivalent
Confederation of Fire Protection Association Europe (CFPA) Fire Risk Assessment & Fire Safety Management / Principles of Fire Safety at Work Certificate
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a HSEE role at a senior level within the heavy industry (metallurgy, glass chemical), running 24/7
Experience at a senior level of the management and implementation of health, safety, environment (including waste), and energy (including decarbonisation) - HSEE compliance and improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of legislative frameworks within HSEE
EU Waste Directive Framework, the circular economy
EU Industrial Emissions Directive Framework, Best available Techniques and the allied BREFs
EU Occupational Safety and Health Directive Framework
EU Energy Efficiency Directive
Experience of communication and liaison with regulatory authorities
Working knowledge of both Civil and Criminal Law
Working knowledge of insurance and experience of working with Insurance companies and managing corporate liability
Familiarity with the requirements of the ISO Standards relating to HSEE
Experience of HSEE Leadership in Manufacturing and Construction (including deconstruction)
Awareness and qualifications in Fibres Occupational Hygiene Risks
Awareness of strategies to manage exposure to rising energy costs including water management, renewable energy, and energy legislation.
Experience in managing Site transport safety risks
Ability to engage and communicate with and influence all levels within the organisation
Team player with high degree of stakeholder focus (listening and questioning)
Analytical skills including Incident investigation and problem solving
Risk Assessment methods and application of methods appropriate
Pragmatic and solutions oriented
Computer literate on MS Office and Email
Fluency in English (French, German is a plus)
